KÖSTER BAUCHEMIE AG has launched a pioneering product in the field of retroactive horizontal barriers on the market by developing a pasty emulsion cream which again emphasizes its claim to being a technology leader in this area. This process, patented by the German Patent Office, involves the production of an emulsion cream based on a water-in-oil emulsion. Therefore, the product is designed in contrast to the usual creams, which consist of an oil-in-water emulsions. This has surprising technical advantages. An emulsion is a mixture of different, usually immiscible liquids (e.g., oil and water), with special adjuvants (emulsifiers) stabilizing this condition for an extended period. This is done via an optimized manufacturing process. For a hydrophobizing cream as a horizontal barrier, two properties are particularly important:
Thanks to this property, the water is displaced on the building material surfaces. Moreover, the creeping and penetrating ability is much higher comparable to an oil and therefore much more developed than with a water-like hydrophilic consistency. In addition, salts in masonry do not dissolve in an oily liquid. Thus, the product is very stable in salty environments, opposite as to how oil-in-water emulsions behave which usually break down in the presence of salts and clump.
Due to its low density and its significantly lower surface tension compared to water, KÖSTER Crisin Cream penetrates the finest capillary pores and contributes to the significantly greater wetting of mineral building material surfaces. This is very important for the effect of a water-repellent cream.
The KÖSTER Crisin Cream is suitable for damp building materials with up to 95% moisture penetration. The patented process has also been successfully tested and certified according to WTA leaflet 4-4-04. In summary, the following six key properties distinguish the product from the water-repellent market:
The KÖSTER Crisin Cream based on resin/silane supports the sustainable renovation of wet walls as a retroactive horizontal barrier and can be used in combination with other KÖSTER products.
